Lewisville Lake, Trophy Catfish Specialty

The Kreb's Report for June 18, 2006, Lewisville Lake:

Where to find Shad: 

Caught a few keeper Sandbass at Deadman's Point (Coordinates XXXXXXXX YYYYYYYY), about 7 am

Used 1 1/2 oz white slabbs, casting into fish, jigging return, most fish at 5 to 8 feet off the bottom

No fish at Rock Pile off old dam, (Coordinates XXXXXXXX YYYYYYYY), about 8 am to 9:30 am

BEST ACTION OF THE DAY:  Caught 30 Catfish, Several Sandbass, One Hybrid, 1 lb to 5 lbs at the Gravel Pitts, (Coordinates XXXXXXXX YYYYYYYY), about 9:30 am to Noon

Used small cut shad, 1 to 1 1/2 inch pieces, fishing vertically, anchored.  Fished the shoulder between 18 feet and 32 feet water, most fish caught in the deeper water.  Fished with 2 oz egg sinker and #4 hook on 14 inch leader below swivel and sinker.  Best fish at 3 cranks up from the bottom.  Caught a few on lighter line rigs with split shots and smaller gold hook.

Caught Five bigger catfish, up to 5 pounds, a few sandbass at The Poles, (Coordinates XXXXXXXX YYYYYYYY), from Noon to 2:30 pm.

Drift fished with larger cut shad, 2 to 3 inch pieces, Fished with 2 oz egg sinker and #4 hook on 14 inch leader below swivel and sinker.  Best fish at 4 1/2 cranks up from the bottom.  Some fish at 16 feet, some at 18 feet, a couple at 20 feet.  Drift fished the shoulder all the way around the flat.  20 feet on top, 24 to 26 feet on the bottom.  Fishing somewhat tough, but good sized fish when caught.  Trolling motor would be useful to keep boat perpendicular to wind (all the boat traffic and light winds caused boat to want to swing parallel to wind.  Perpendicular to wind works best for drift fishing.)
